Read this to lower your blood pressure

Read this to lower your blood pressure

I pray that during this month of March, and our Wheatful Wednesday devotional time together, God has moved through moments of stillness. The vision He made so clear to me as I sat down to write for this month was that our blood pressure would lower, our hearts would soften, our hope would rise, and our perspective would shift as we think more about Him and His nearness than all the other things that cross our minds all day.

In our new Lent Devotional, Life Less Hurried, I share some personal moments in my faith these last few months. Some personal life circumstances and how God has met me. I mention Psalm 23 a handful of times throughout the 40 daily devotionals and the peace it washes over me. In Psalm 23, we see David praising the Lord in the belief that He is peace. That God gives us everything we need. I want to encourage you to read aloud the passage below with gumption in your spirit, something we practiced as a retreat group in the chapel at Seaside last November. At the end of our devotional chat, I read this passage aloud, inviting our women to visualize David saying these words with enthusiasm, lived experience of peace, and belief that God is good. As we conclude our March devotionals about living life less hurried, I want to invite you into a quiet place with just you and the Lord, to read these words out loud to Him in the same way, with praise.

Psalm 23 (NIV)
A psalm of David.

 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
     He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
     he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
 Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.
