Let me introduce you to my gal Elizabeth. One of the first things recorded about her in Luke’s Gospel is that both she and her husband were both “righteous in the sight of God, observing all Lord’s commands and decrees blamelessly.” Wow, what a legacy to hold! Similarly to Sarah’s story (Abraham’s wife), she was childless for the majority of her life to the point that it wasn’t even believed to be a possibility any longer. She went on to give birth to John the Baptist who would proclaim to the world the celebratory news of the Savior! God loves to bring possibility to advertised impossibility ~ That’s His MO! She also was the relative that Mary of Nazareth visited after she found out that she was going to give birth to Jesus. She was involved in so many powerful stories.
Elizabeth was faithful in response to God’s faithfulness, and she didn’t hesitate to invite others into her rejoicing! Scripture says that she celebrated with her family and neighbors ~ all who wondered in awe. Lately, I am making an effort to be easily delighted. Looking for goodness and glimmers in daily life. It refocuses my attention back to Jesus throughout the day, which is the goal.
Jesus, you have shown us countless stories of amazing women that we can admire and be inspired by! Their lives weren’t perfect or easy, but they chose you. We want to be daughters that see your goodness everywhere we go! We want to encourage one another, affirm one another, and seek truth together. We want to know you more. Reveal yourself to us. We love you oh-so-much. Amen.
