The Fruits of Patience

The Fruits of Patience
They say that patience is a virtue. Friend, I don’t know if you can relate, but it’s quite the virtue I wrestle with.

We live in a culture where everything is fast paced, and in a time where instant gratification can be obtained if you just force your own will and way. Yet, amidst the crowding in our minds of our plans, desires, and the “next best thing”, we still manage to find room to doubt or feel forsaken by God when He tells us to be patient and wait.

“The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25-26 (NIV)

This scripture speaks to us in the seasons we find ourselves waiting. In our waiting we are called to cling to hope, commit to seeking His will, and pursue a posture of patience.

Hoping in The Lord fastens our gaze upward. It declares that we don’t have to see active change in circumstance in front of us to believe in His faithfulness to provide exactly what we need in the right time.

Seeking to know Him more intimately can be found by diving into His word, opening our hearts, and quieting our minds so we create space for Him. If we never shift our focus from the distractions in our periphery, we will miss His promises standing right in front of you and me.

When we choose to wait on God quietly, we invite the posture of patience in. God will use our patience to teach us the power of perseverance, dependence, faith, and refinement.

Patience becomes a virtue to us when we recognize the beauty of the fruit that becomes produced within us. I know it’s very challenging, and at times crippling, but cling to the truth that He has purpose for the promise on the other side of patience.
