I have a dear friend that always talks about God’s kindness to her. She uses this word as an expression of gratitude, almost as a word that searches for God in her moments. Listening to her share about God’s kindness to her led me to also look for His kindness to me. I found myself using this language as an effect of her perspective.
God’s presence is kind. We see God do grand things like saving us from our sin. We see Him in baptism moments, rock bottom moments, and through incredible encounter stories, but what I want to talk about today is His kindness in our ordinary life. The way His presence goes with us, is for us and personal to us is in fact KIND. His accessibility, availability, and desire to draw near to us is KIND. The way God speaks to us so personally and intimately is KIND. God saved us. That was really more than enough, but He didn't stop there. He wanted us to experience Him. He wanted us to have moments of feeling STUNNED that He would be so kind and so personal to speak to us in ways only He would understand how to.
I’ve experienced God stopping me in my tracks through a repeated phrase or Scripture in multiple settings within a short time frame (when I believe He really wants me to get something and is so kind to be patient with me in my distracted nature). I’ve also experienced God through how He affirms decisions I make for this ministry by speaking through trusted people I ask to pray and give access to have influence over my heart.
There are many ways our experience of God is personal, and it at times can be too personal to even explain to others. What beauty. God’s kindness is holy—a mystery, really—and it’s waiting for you and I in our ordinary moments because God loves us too much to not give us the opportunity to experience just how much He loves us.
Psalm 34:8 (NIV) “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
