Week 4 of 4: A prayer for adult friendships

Week 4 of 4: A prayer for adult friendships

Wheatful Wednesday with Wheat and Honey Co.

"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another" (Proverbs 27:17).

Some access points where we may have started this series together:

1. Finding this type of friendship is hard for me

2. I have friendship hurt that has led me to fear trusting new people to get close

3. I have good friends but want to deepen those relationships to reach a point that feels like we sharpen one another (at all or more than we do now)

4. I want to continue to be a good friend with healthy relationships around me

No matter your personality or what your routine looks like, we all desire connection to one another. We don’t just desire it but we need it to live the life God created for us. We need meaningful connections, people who know us and care for us. We need to give the same care and attention to others that we were designed to need ourselves. We need mutually invested relationships.

Friendship as a Virtue:
The Bible emphasizes the importance of friendship, with verses like "Two are better than one" (Ecclesiastes 4:9–12) and "a friend sticks closer than a brother" (Proverbs 18:24) highlighting the value of companionship.

It shouldn’t surprise us that meaningful relationships require thoughtfulness and intention. Anything worth having does.

I pray this series has been a starting point for reflection and pause as we evaluate the type of friend we want to be and have. Looking at these biblical examples over the last few weeks is a great place to start. I pray God will prompt our hearts to have a new hunger to learn how to be a God-honoring friend and how to surround ourselves with safe people who desire the same. I pray God will highlight these people to us, help us navigate nurturing relationships, and that He will heal our hearts from past friendship hurt. God, thank you for growing us through relationships with one another so we can know you more and look more like you. Amen.
