Wheatful Wednesday with Wheat and Honey Co.
Our illustration today is the relationship between David and Jonathan. The friendship between David and Jonathan, as depicted in the Old Testament, is known for their deep bond and mutual loyalty, marked by shared faith, vulnerability, and unwavering support, even in the face of adversity.
Jonathan, the son of King Saul, went to great lengths to protect David, even when his father, Saul, turned against him. David, in turn, showed great gratitude and loyalty to Jonathan. This Biblical example of friendship shows the importance of loyalty, vulnerability, and standing up for one another and the role those things play in our meaningful relationships with one another.
I like this example in particular because it’s a look at two real people who faced hardship and chose to stand beside each other in thick and thin. I always encourage us to let these devotionals be a place of “thought starters” that prompt us to open our Bibles. You can read the full story of this relationship between Jonathan and David in the books of 1 and 2 Samuel.
Today, we have the opportunity to look at ourselves and contemplate not only the friend we want to have but also ways we can be more of that ideal for others.
Does the way we love our friends honor the Lord?
Do we leave our spaces with our friends feeling closer to the Lord? Like we know more of who He is because of our interactions with each other?
I pray these thought starters would be the beginning of a sweet moment with God today. A moment of reflection and hope for the companionship we were created for!
