The Fruit of Dependence

The Fruit of Dependence
We all have beautiful dreams we’ve aspired to have someday. Relationships. Marriage. Kids. Career. House. Fill in the blank…

Whether it was devised by ourselves or by societal demands, we’ve found a way to stamp these dreams on a deadline. But what happens when your dreams are delayed according to your timeline?

“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna…to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.” Deuteronomy 8:2-3 (NIV)

What we may perceive to be delays in our manmade deadlines may in actuality be God’s  redirection to bring forth His provision. God knows when our hearts aren’t fully fixated on Him. Sometimes in our season of waiting, God is in turn waiting on us to finally depend on Him and surrender to HIS plan.

To experience the fruit of dependence, this scripture teaches us we are to “remember”, remain humble, and trust Him.

When we remind ourselves of the times God has already provided in the past, it builds our confidence to, again, trust Him patiently in the process.  Pursuing a posture of humbleness releases the grip of lie that we control our life, and acknowledges we are nothing without God. Placing our trust in God opens our hearts to remain fixated on His divine provision for us even when it’s not what we would’ve planned.

Friend, trade your deadlines in for dependence. We may not know why, or what He has planned, but with confidence we do know that God will provide, in His perfect time.
