Have you ever looked at your situation or circumstances completely overwhelmed?
My husband and I went hiking one day, and I suddenly became paralyzed in my tracks. My eyes zeroed in on the long metal cables that we were supposed to use to scale a portion of the mountain. All I could do in that moment was desperately search for an alternate route, but unfortunately it would only mean turning around.
My husband whispered to me, “your mind is playing games on you.”
I scoffed because the steep incline was clearly enough to justify my fear. Suddenly, a woman confidently walked up embracing the cable and scaled the incline with ease. It actually wasn’t as steep as it seemed…so I fought through my fear, and by the grace of God, conquered it too.
Have you ever experienced your mind playing games on you?
You can’t see hope because you see hardship. You can’t see peace because you only see pain. You can’t see faith because you’re surrounded by fear.
The enemy knows the power our minds hold. He knows that if we allow our minds to become paralyzed by our circumstance, we lose sight of the fruit that comes from faith.
“...For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NIV)
We all have, and will continue to, encounter inclines we’d rather look for an easier route on. Let’s give ourselves grace by being patient with ourselves in the obstacles we face because life can be HARD. But with a little faith, God can move the steepest of mountains for you. (Matt 17:20)
If we only fixate on what we perceive, we may be left deceived; but when we set our sight on faith, friend, the fruit of eternal glory awaits.
