We fight from a place of victory. This statement has deeply encouraged me over the years when I feel discouraged in any longing of my heart. When there is a desire that I just can’t seem to navigate, despite my efforts, I find myself feeling tired. What a place to land: trusting our Father to work all things together for our good and His glory. We walk our days with the Creator of the universe at our side and He is worthy of our trust. This week, as we anticipate Easter Sunday this weekend, we get to think about the empty tomb and the symbol of victory that is.
“Jesus said, ‘Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, “I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”’ Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: ‘I have seen the Lord!’ And she told them that he had said these things to her.” John 20:17–18 (NIV)
As we contemplate the cross for a few more days in the final moments leading up to Good Friday and Easter Sunday, let’s ask the Holy Spirit to speak to us through a few thoughts.
Holy Spirit, I long to experience:
- The freedom in the forgiveness of my sins because of what Jesus suffered on the cross
- The hope found in the resurrection of Jesus
- The joy, celebration and new life that Easter brings
I invite all of us to look for opportunities over these next few days to sit with our Father, anticipating the ways He will allow us to experience new freedom, forgiveness, hope, joy, and life in Him.
