“In him we were also chosen, destined in accord with the purpose of the One who accomplishes all things according to the intention of his will.” Ephesians 1:11 (NABRE)
A lie of the world that is easy to not realize we are living by is that we are responsible for figuring out our purpose and living it in an optimal way. Scripture says that God chose us, created us, and knit us together in our mother’s womb, destined according to His purpose. And let’s not forget this major detail: God accomplishes all things according to the intention of His will.
Our purpose is to know God, to love God, to love others, and to bring Him glory. Doing this “optimally” simply looks like a constant desire for nearness to God and looking more like Him each day. The world convinces us that the major details that describe our life season, our relationships, our careers, etc., define our purpose and whether we are living it. What defines our purpose is the motive of our heart, something only God can truly and fully see.
I encourage you not to race to the next thing today but to spend a moment of stillness before the Lord, thanking Him for our great purpose that was a part of His original design. We get to sit with Him, desire to know Him and experience Him, share His love with others, extend His grace to ourselves, and live to be more like Him each day.

Not finding but receiving our purpose
