He's Writing My Story & Knows About Every Tear

Psalm 56:8 “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?”

Our God is so ridiculously personal with us. Even our tears are sacred to him. Can you think of anyone else that would keep track of every single tear for every single person?

One of my favorite things about my dad is that he is easily moved to tears. Whether it be in shared celebration or shared mourning, he does not hesitate to empathize in this way. He gets choked up over the faithfulness and goodness of God often, and it’s humbling to observe. It’s the way that he was created, but he also does not resist it. In a culture that seems to discourage men from showing emotion, I cherish this attribute in him so dearly. His heart is tender.

My earthly father has shown me a tenderness that most similarly reflects that of my Father God. This has been such a gift in my life that I do not take for granted. God’s love for me is without conditions. Fully pure, fully available, fully mine as His daughter. He’s writing my story and He knows about every tear. He keeps them in a bottle as if they are treasure. He draws near to me and pursues me despite my wandering. I can’t understand it, but I am blown away by it!

I was recently introduced to a business called “Bottle of Tears” ~ when words fall short, they create beautifully handcrafted gifts of hope and comfort. Their purpose centers around the truth that God sees you and you are never alone. I bought a pair of earrings after learning about their mission that constantly reminds me of this scripture. I need tangible promptings of His nearness. His intentionality with me. There is none like Him!

What are some ways that you actively encounter the intimacy of our God?

This edition is great for personal Bible reading and reflection, small-group study, or taking notes through a sermon series.

Paul writes that the new self is being “renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” The more we orient our mind to growing in knowledge about God through reading and studying His Word, the more our old self sheds away. So let’s consider together: How does knowing Jesus change the way we approach a current family conflict? How does knowing Jesus change the way we approach unfair circumstances at our work? Injustice we see in the news cycle? The profiles we follow and engage with on I...

Our trustworthy master
Our trustworthy master

May 01, 2024

The Bible is clear: we are either slaves to sin, or slaves to righteousness. We cannot serve two masters. Our culture encourages us to live for ourselves, to define truth our own way, and to follow our own rules. Even as believers, how often do we consider our own emotions and desires as a better master than God? Proverbs 14:12 says “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Let us submit to the reign of the wise King who truly knows best for us. Let us submi...
