From Empty to Overflow: Running on Empty

From Empty to Overflow: Running on Empty

Have you been stuck feeling like you’ve been running on straight EMPTY? You’re forcing yourself to go through the motions but recognize there’s now a loss of emotion. That passion you once had to fervently pour into your ministry, your job, friends, or your family feels as though your cup has been scorched by heavy demands leaving your cup parched and cracking. There’s not even a single drop to give, and even if there was, it’d just slip through the cracks.

Jesus has lived what it means to empty yourself unto others.

“But emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men” - Phil 2:7

Jesus emptied himself by giving up His life so we can have freedom. He emptied Himself by creating space to bear our sins. But we have to remember that Jesus is God and we are NOT. Jesus will fill the spaces because of how GOOD His grace is.

Pouring out to others is different from fully depleting yourself. Jesus bore that burden so we don’t have to. In order for us to live in the gift of freedom, we cannot be bound by our burnout.

It’s okay to step back, take a breath in, and acknowledge you need a cup refill in order to begin again. We don’t want empty to become an identity.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary…but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” Isaiah 40:29-31

With The Lord on our side our weariness will once again become our strength. Surrender running on empty so you can be ready to receive your refill, friend.

PRAYER:

Lord Jesus, we thank you for your sacrifice on the cross. We thank you for bearing our burdens so that we can be free. Lord, I pray for my sister running on empty. Would you remind her that the weight of the world was never meant for her shoulders, and that in you she can find rest. Help her to find space to release and trust you to fill in the gaps. Bless her with grace and a sabbath. Amen.
