Desires of the enemy: Distraction

Desires of the enemy: Distraction

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8

We live in a world of constant distractions.

Notifications on our phones - pulling us to read the latest email or see the newest update in our friends’ lives.

Advertising and influencers - telling us about the best products and services we should be buying.

Problems, pain points, and hard circumstances - arising just as we’re about to step into the will of God.

These distractions are no coincidence, friend. There’s a good chance they are tactics of the enemy, strategically placed in your path to take your focus off the Lord.

The Bible tells us in Luke chapter 21 that the Kingdom of God is near. But we have to be careful not to be so consumed with the cares of the world and the distractions of the enemy that we’re caught off guard when Jesus returns.

“But be on your guard. Don’t let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties and drinking and shopping. Otherwise, that Day is going to take you by complete surprise…” (Luke 21:34 MSG)

As we go throughout the day, let’s make a point to be on guard. Let’s be aware of how the enemy may be trying to distract us so we can intentionally choose to do the will of the Lord and walk in the fullness of His presence.

Letting go of my “boast list”
Letting go of my “boast list”

April 10, 2024

Turns out that like Paul, I’m not as “good” as my spiritual “boast list” makes me appear. Friend, let this truth dissolve any stock we have in our ability to produce a spiritual “boast list.” It’s been a humbling journey to let go of my “boast list,” but the grace of Jesus is so much better to h...

March 27, 2024

Our hope often clings to the promise of ‘something’ to restore meaning to our lives. So we fix our eyes and efforts upon a created hope. Yet, upon reaching what we hoped for, we quickly realize its transient nature. We’re left searching and longing for something more…
