Desires of the enemy: Distraction

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8

We live in a world of constant distractions.

Notifications on our phones - pulling us to read the latest email or see the newest update in our friends’ lives.

Advertising and influencers - telling us about the best products and services we should be buying.

Problems, pain points, and hard circumstances - arising just as we’re about to step into the will of God.

These distractions are no coincidence, friend. There’s a good chance they are tactics of the enemy, strategically placed in your path to take your focus off the Lord.

The Bible tells us in Luke chapter 21 that the Kingdom of God is near. But we have to be careful not to be so consumed with the cares of the world and the distractions of the enemy that we’re caught off guard when Jesus returns.

“But be on your guard. Don’t let the sharp edge of your expectation get dulled by parties and drinking and shopping. Otherwise, that Day is going to take you by complete surprise…” (Luke 21:34 MSG)

As we go throughout the day, let’s make a point to be on guard. Let’s be aware of how the enemy may be trying to distract us so we can intentionally choose to do the will of the Lord and walk in the fullness of His presence.

Compassion Triumphs Pity
Compassion Triumphs Pity

On one hand, they were exiled because of their own sin, and on the other hand, their burdens were increased because of the sin of the nations oppressing them. I am certain that if I were an exiled Israelite, I would have been grumbling and throwing pity parties the majority of the time. How does God respond to them? Throu...

As Christians, the biggest problem with unhealthy comparison is that it misplaces our passion for building the Kingdom of God onto building our own kingdoms of self. Comparison strips us of seeing what God has given us and called us to.
