Wisdom to navigate this crazy life

Wisdom to navigate this crazy life

Proverbs 15:22 “Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisors they succeed.”

I’m a huge advocate of mentorship for so many reasons! First off, I need all the wisdom to navigate this crazy life . It’s one of the only things that God promises us to give us when we ask Him for it, which is really cool to think about. Secondly, I need the counsel of those who have gone before me. My mom always encouraged me to mentor and be mentored by women in our home church, and it’s honestly one of the best mentalities that she could have instilled in me from a young age. To understand and appreciate the value and importance of Godly mentorship is such a gift in my life.

It’s too easy for us to look past our own sin or get caught up in our circumstances. Things get blurry and honestly our natures are innately selfish. We are constantly thinking about ourselves and how everything affects us.

About five years ago, I was attending a class at my home church and I met a woman that just oozed the love of the Lord. I immediately desired to learn from her. After the class ended, I approached and just very candidly said “I am amazed by your relationship with the Lord, and I would love to regularly meet with you.” To my absolute delight, she agreed! We have completed countless studies and prayer sessions together since then. She encourages me, she challenges me with scripture, she holds me accountable with authentic confession, and she deeply loves me. She reminds me of my Father God’s love and often humbles me to tears. My spiritual growth and transformation would not be the same without her influence in my life. Sister, if you’ve been considering mentorship, what are you waiting for?

Compassion Triumphs Pity
Compassion Triumphs Pity

September 13, 2023

We can find biblical hope for this struggle when we consider the story of the Israelites’ exile in the Old Testament. The afflictions of the Israelites’ exile were two-fold. On one hand, they were exiled because of their own sin, and on the other hand, their burdens were increased because of the sin of the nations oppressing them. I am certain that if I were an exiled Israelite, I would have been grumbling and throwing pity parties the majority of the time. How does God respond to them? Throu...

As Christians, the biggest problem with unhealthy comparison is that it misplaces our passion for building the Kingdom of God onto building our own kingdoms of self. Comparison strips us of seeing what God has given us and called us to.
