What God opens no one can shut, and what God shuts no one can open

What God opens no one can shut, and what God shuts no one can open
I’ve felt the Lord expand my capacity to write again after several years of desiring to put words to what God had to say but having lacked the capacity to do so. I was talking with a friend just this week about how beautiful God’s timing is. He loves us so much that He shows us His good gifts before those gifts come to fruition. This might look like desiring to be a wife or mother, being passionate about your career and where it will go, hope for physical healing or the mending of a special relationship in your life. It’s only by God’s grace that we are able to have dreams that align with the abundant life He has for us before seeing His best come to life for us.

As I was putting life experience to this knowledge this week, I began thinking about the power we get to embrace when God gives us eyes to see these hopes or these dreams ahead of their time of fruition and the impact of how we walk through the “waiting” for them. How powerful to think about the contrast of the world, which often tells us the time of waiting is a waste, to the perspective of heaven, which shows us how we get to experience God in this time. I share this because I’ve known the time was coming for me to write again, but I equally knew it was okay that it was not the time. Until now. This year, you can expect to hear from me each Wednesday in your email inbox as I share thoughts God has given our community to share and ponder together through our Wheatful Wednesday devotionals. I look forward to watching God’s heart for us unfold together. — Britt

“What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.” Revelation 3:7

As we start a new year and I sit back down to begin writing again, I asked the Lord what He most wanted us to remember today. This verse from Revelation 3 stood out. Let’s read it again: “What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open” (Revelation 3:7). Let’s remember that God is ALL powerful. He knows all and He loves you. His greatest desire is that we would sit with Him as this new year begins. That we would each sit, listen, and discern where He is asking us to love others in His mighty name. He can open doors to advance the gospel in ways we could never think, believe, or imagine apart from knowing and believing in His majesty. Ask Him today: what is my part to play this month? This week? This day? Where are you asking me to be brave and share your good news that saves? How can my life be marked by your love in growth capacity?

God’s grace is freely given. I pray we would each receive His loving guidance today in freedom and with ease because "My yoke is easy and my burden is light" (Matthew 11:30). Following Jesus is not heavy or time-consuming, but rather it is LIFE in abundance. He makes our “yes” feel like lying down in green pastures. Nothing we do for His glory will ever resemble a burden of the world that we are so familiar with, but it will resemble a peace and a strength that can only be from Him.

Father, thank you for sharing your heavenly perspective with us today so we might be more prone to see you and respond. Thank you for opening doors for us to walk through in your mighty name so we might experience and share your love. We love you. Amen.
