Rejection Redirected

Rejection Redirected
Have you ever experienced a time where all you could see or feel in the moment was pure rejection? Are you maybe even fighting back the tears in this space right now?

When our hearts or plans are fixated on a vision, it can be so challenging to try and see any sort of rejection through the perspective of protection. The moment news breaks that our plans have been displaced, or we feel as through we’ve been officially replaced, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with thoughts like:

“If only I was good enough or pretty enough, then they wouldn’t have left me for someone else.”

“If only I was smart enough or talented enough, that job/promotion would’ve had my name engraved all over it.”

“If only I was more of the life of the party, I would have friends to think to invite me.”

Many people in the Bible, including Jesus himself, also knew the pain of rejection. In Genesis 50:20 Joseph addressed the rejection from his brothers betraying him:

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” Genesis 50:20 (NIV)

Joseph acknowledged that his brothers intentionally sought to harm him. But instead of remaining fixated on his pain, he shifted his focus toward the heavenly gain.

The truth is we live in a broken/fallen world where rejection is bound to happen in some way shape or form. It’s not our job to figure out why we were left, why someone else got the job, or why you get left out. But friends, it is our job to cling to truth; the truth that because God loves us abundantly more than we could hope or imagine, He will use man’s rejection as redirection for His greater good and protection.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (NIV)
