Hold Fast in the Fire: In the Surrender

Do you ever struggle with wrestling God for control? I sure can be guilty. We’ve all experienced burns from life before - some to a greater degree than others. Grasping for control in our circumstances gives a false sense of security by believing we can prevent pain, disappointment, or rejection from happening. In the end it’s fleeting and depleting.

But it’s in our surrender we can find healing.

“‘King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us[a] from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.’”- Daniel 3:16-18

When life throws us into the furnace, can we choose to believe surrendering to Jesus and His plan will be worth it because we have a purpose?

God controls physical healing, who He brings in and takes out of your life, life’s highlights and downfalls, your beginnings and your endings, and the destiny of your purpose.

Now, what do you have control of at this moment?
How you respond, treat others, love, steward your money, fuel your body, and how you seek after Jesus. I’m sure there’s more.
Sit with The Lord and ask Him to help whatever you are trying to take on from HIS list and surrender it.

Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we need to be bold in our faith in surrender. Trust that no matter what fire life throws our way pursuing Jesus by releasing what we cannot control will help us find peace in letting go.

PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, you hear every cry, you wipe our tears, and you remind us that you are near. Jesus, help us to release our tight grip on trying to control. We can with confidence believe that trusting you is so much freer, and that your plans for us will someway somehow be for good. Help us to maintain a posture of surrender. Amen.

Jesus, we thank you that your words are true. Even when we doubt, you are still who you say that you are. You show up consistently, your character remains the same, and you keep your promises. Even though you have nothing to prove to us, your trustworthiness is undeniable. Help us to cling to you when we don’t understand. We love you so much. Amen.

Jesus, oh how we need you every hour. In our waiting, in our wanting, in every season. Nothing is hidden from you, and for that we are so thankful. You know the days of our lives and the number of hairs on our heads because you love us so intimately. We love you. Amen.
