Have you ever seen the cartoon drawing of Jesus taking away a small teddy bear from a child, only to have an even larger bear hiding behind His back? All the little girl can see in the moment is what she feels like is being taken away. Jesus on the other hand, is asking for her to trust Him in exchange for a gift she wouldn’t have imagined she was about to receive.
I don’t know about you, but like the girl in the cartoon, I’ve had my fair share of moments where I didn't want to give up my small teddy bear out of fear of being left empty handed. Sometimes when we feel robbed of something we love or desire in our life, it feels like the enemy is the one who wins.
But friend, the truth is that the enemy can’t stand a chance against a God who gives us a life of abundance.
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 (ESV)
The enemy tried to steal our freedom, but in exchange Jesus died for it.
The enemy tried to keep us bound to the grave, but in exchange Jesus rose for it.
The enemy tried to steal our hope, but in exchange Jesus lives on within us.
We have been given the gift to live abundantly because God sent His son to die for you and me.
God gives abundantly more than we could ever need because the power of the Holy Spirit within us never leaves.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.” Romans 15:13 (ESV)
God is so faithful to provide every spiritual need to us - the only thing He asks in exchange from us to trust Him. Whatever small bear you’re holding on to tightly in this season of life is friend, just remember the bigger blessing is just behind Him.
