A Woman to Admire & Inspire: Hannah

A Woman to Admire & Inspire: Hannah

The beginning of Hannah’s story is filled with heartache and longing and deep anguish. She had an earnest desire for a child that was unfulfilled for many years. Undoubtedly, we can all relate to an extended season of waiting. We hold the tension of “not yet” while desperately clinging to hope and striving to trust that the Lord knows best. Hannah chose to persevere in prayer. Let’s follow her lead!  How often do we lose momentum in approaching God because of our doubt? I know that I can be guilty of it. We are tempted to believe that our requests are too extreme, too selfish, too ‘fill in the blank’. Or we might even think that God has forgotten us while comparison creeps in threatening to destroy our dreams.

The truth? God knows our prayers even when we don’t speak the words out loud. His Spirit intercedes for us. We aren’t promised a specific outcome, but we are promised that He will never leave us or forsake us. We will never be alone and that is sweet assurance!

Hannah’s personal prayer of praise seems perfectly suitable to wrap this one up. She goes on for 10 verses, but I’ll only share the first few. 1 Samuel 2:1-2.

“Then Hannah prayed and said:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
    in the Lord my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
    for I delight in your deliverance.
“There is no one holy like the Lord;
    there is no one besides you;
    there is no Rock like our God.
