This devotional was created to walk women through 20 characteristics of God and the hope we have, because of them. This devotional will start with space to journal and reflect, lead into 20 daily devotionals that are scripture based and include a prayer. The final section of this devotional will feature additional reflection space to sit with the Lord and ponder how He has comforted us on our journey through this devotional with Him.

Shame. Guilt. Anger. Grief. Devastation.
Let’s start by acknowledging the elephant in the room. Baby loss isn’t something you ever envisioned for yourself, is it? If you’re a bereaved mother, you’re probably intimately acquainted with these feelings. What else did I miss? Frustration…anxiety…rage?
You are the only mother to your baby and simultaneously, you are part of a collective motherhood experience with millions of other women. Statistically speaking, you are unequivocally not alone. There are millions of women who have been in your shoes…but where are they? It’s within this paradox of silence and statistics that my passion lies. Why do we feel so alone, when the research shows otherwise? Isolation has a way of keeping us from finding healing and finding each other.
Enter Jesus.
He offered me the kind of healing I never dreamed possible after losing my son, James. While I wish that there was never a reason for you to open this book, I imagine walking alongside you—arm in arm or meeting over a cup of coffee—talking about our babies and our unique motherhood. Be confident that even if we never have the opportunity to meet, you’ve been on my heart as I’ve penned these words. I see you, Mama.
Our Creator wired us for communion, with Him and with each other. My prayer is that within these pages you experience the inexplicable companionship that is often forged amongst loss moms and you will open yourself to the comfort and true healing that only Jesus can orchestrate.

My personal motherhood story is one of passion, hope, longing, loss, and miracles. When I was pregnant with our miracle baby, Hudson, God put it on my heart to release a series of devotionals that complement one another on the theme of motherhood. As one mom, I immediately knew this project needed multiple women, with multiple experiences and perspectives. The Lord has a tender heart for mothers. He created women with the innate ability to nurture and be a display of strength unlike anything else on this earth. It did not take long for peace that surpasses all understanding or overthinking to flood my heart in assurance that this was a project God had for Wheat & Honey Co.
A quick behind the scenes: once it was time to begin, I reached out to a handful of trusted and Spirit-prompted friends, requesting they share an author application with anyone they felt would be a fit for an author position. From there, women applied and God began filling in the next steps and our authors were identified.
These next several pages were written to bring light to our enemy who convinces us that lies are truth. These pages were also written to, more importantly, remind you that you have access to a heavenly perspective, understanding who our God is and who we are, as mothers, in Him. God has a role for mothers that is pivotal for the Kingdom. Our Motherhood Devotional series is going to eliminate the enemy’s access to the hearts of mothers. God is here and He has something to say that will change everything.

Father, thank you for the opportunity to sit with women in their varying seasons of motherhood. I pray that your voice will be heard through these pages. Help us to eliminate anything distracting our heart, leading us to believe lies that are not from You. I pray the women who sit with you would receive a unique message from you that changes everything. Thank you for being our God who saves. Thank you for saving us, calling us, and comforting us. Thank you for changing everything. Amen.

Why we created this tool:
A spiritual revolution is about to take place as we intentionally invite the Holy Spirit to guide us away from distractions and closer to God.
During this period, we will be fasting from busyness, comparison, and overwhelm (to name a few) with the hope of finding more of Jesus when our hearts are focused less on the things of this world and more on His word.
This tool can be used at any point of the year, but you may find this 40-day period to be more intentional during the Lenten season of repentance and solitude as we remember Jesus' death and celebrate His resurrection.
What to expect:
This devotional and prayer guide includes 40 daily devotionals followed by daily prompted prayer space for journaling.
My hope and prayer is that this tool will walk us through 40 intentional days focused on identifying distractors so we might be more prompt to recognize and fight off distractions in our daily lives beyond this 40-day period.
We hope these pages will be used for the Holy Spirit to:
- prompt us to fast from routine distractions in our life that may be pulling us away from intimacy with Him
- guide us to open our Bibles routinely and read His true word
- protect our quiet and intimate moments of solitude in His presence
- prompt written prayers to enrich our awareness of and dependence on Him
I pray this tool is an invitation to know our God more, to gain a deeper understanding of the cross, and to bring Him glory through service and worship. I pray this tool touches your unique relationship with our God in ways you treasure uniquely in your heart!
