How are you receiving God’s love?

How are you receiving God’s love?

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” John 15:9 (NIV)

As we enter the month of February, we are surrounded by themes of “love” as Valentine’s Day approaches, and we are also in the weeks nearing the beginning of the Lenten season. As I was preparing our Wheatful Wednesday devotionals for this month, I couldn’t help but contemplate our maybe unrecognized heart posture in this season, and I desire to draw attention to it. We were created to receive and give love. Not just any kind of love but life-giving love, selfless love, compassionate love. Our hearts love to be recipients of such love that only God gives. As we enter this new month, let’s pause for a moment to contemplate the love God has available to us that must be received before we can have any to give to others.

We recently released our brand new (first new devotional book in over a year) study, Life Less Hurried, to walk us through the 40-day Lenten season this year. The message God put on my heart so clearly was one of focus on His sovereignty, which requires stillness in our souls. Before we can do this humbly and from a place of readiness to receive, it would be impactful to contemplate how we are doing as it relates to receiving God’s love.

When you think about how you talk to yourself, do you use a tone of grace? Are your thoughts about yourself thoughts you would speak over someone you love dearly?

This week, let’s pause throughout our days and speak truth over our thoughts. Below are a few prayerfully on my mind that I pray would be a starting point for us to jump from. As you seek Him this week, I pray God would exceed your expectations with graceful words of kindness about who He says you are.

  • I am strong and every moment of stillness in the presence of God strengthens me

  • I am safe in the presence of God

  • God is pleased with my heart to sit with Him

  • God provides safety and prosperity for me

  • I live from the strength of His peace

  • Nothing can separate me from God’s love

  • I am deeply loved by God for who I am, not what I do

  • I am valued because Jesus gave His life for me

  • I get to love others as God has first loved me
